COMMITTEE ON THE ELIMINATION OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION CONCLUDES ITS NINETY-SIXTH SESSION

Adopts Concluding Observations and Recommendations on the Reports of Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Cuba, Japan, Latvia, Mauritius and Montenegro

The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination today concluded its ninety-sixth session after adopting its concluding observations and recommendations on the reports of Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Cuba, Japan, Latvia, Mauritius and Montenegro, which were considered during the session.

The concluding observations and recommendations of the Committee will be available on the Committee’s webpage after 2 p.m. Geneva time today.

Noureddine Amir, Committee Chairperson, summarizing the work carried out during the session, said the Committee had held very constructive discussions with the delegations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Cuba, Japan, Latvia, Mauritius and Montenegro, and had adopted concluding observations and recommendations on their reports, which would be available on the Committee’s webpage after 2 p.m. today. He thanked civil society organizations for their vital participation and input. Under its follow-up procedure, the Committee had considered the follow-up reports of Armenia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Finland and Uruguay. He thanked the working group on early warning and urgent action for its work, and the working group on individual communications. In addition to individual communications, the Committee had implemented for the first time article 11 concerning three inter-State communications by Qatar and the State of Palestine, relaying the received responses to the two aforementioned States. The Committee had discussed its forthcoming thematic debates and general comments, and more details would be available on them in the November session.


The ninety-seventh session of the Committee will be held from 26 November to 14 December, during which it will consider the reports of Albania, Honduras, Iraq, Norway, Qatar and Republic of Korea on how they implement the provisions of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination .
