COMMITTEE ON THE RIGHTS OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES CONCLUDES TWELFTH SESSION
the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities today concluded its twelfth session after adopting its concluding observations and recommendations on the reports of New Zealand, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Belgium, Ecuador and Denmark on how these States parties implement the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The concluding observations and recommendations will be available here at the end of the day.
During the session, the Committee adopted a statement on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on Disability Inclusion in the Third World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction and Beyond, and a statement on its jurisprudence on article 14 of the Convention on liberty and security of the person and the way forward in the preparation of a draft General Comments on article 14. The Committee also decided to hold a day of general discussion in April 2015 on article 24 of the Convention on the right to education. The Committee established two working groups to draft general comments on article 19 of the Convention on living independently and being included in the community, and on article 24 of the Convention on the right to education.
In addition, the Committee discussed its methods of work, General Comments, and communications under its Optional Protocol, in closed meetings.
Today, the Committee held a meeting to mark the 150th ratification to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and also to thank Committee members who will leaving the Committee at the end of the year. The Committee now has 151 ratifications.
The thirteenth session of the Committee will be held from 25 March to 17 April 2015, during which the Committee will consider the reports of Germany, Croatia, Czech Republic, Turkmenistan, Dominican Republic, Mongolia and Cook Islands.
