By 2050, humanity will devour 140 billon tons of minerals, ores and biomass each year – three times the current
appetite – unless the economic growth rate is “decoupled” from the rate of natural resource consumption, warns a new
report from the UNEP-hosted International Resource Panel.
The report, called Decoupling natural resource use and environmental impacts from economic growth
will be released at the Commission for Sustainable Development meeting in New York on 12 May.
The report is strictly embargoed, and not for publication until after its launch in New-York on 12 May at 17:30 GMT
