Press Conference Announcement
WHO launching new tools to fight cervical cancer
To mark the upcoming World Cancer Leaders Summit, and the UICC International Cancer Congress, being held on 3-6 December, 2014, in Melbourne, Australia, the World Health Organization is launching two new tools for countries to use in the fight against cancers, which are responsible for more than 8 million deaths annually, the bulk in low- and middle-income countries.
The new Comprehensive cervical cancer control: a guide to essential practice presents new methods to prevent, detect and control cervical cancer, one of the leading causes of cancer death in women, and one of the most preventable, responsible for more than 270 000 deaths annually, 85% of which occur in developing countries.
The press releases and interview material from the press briefing are embargoed until 00:01 CET on 3 December, 2014, when the new products will be officially launched at the Melbourne events.
