NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF PAKISTAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Khalil-ur-Rahman Hashmi, the new Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Hashmi had been serving as Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan since August 2016. A career diplomat, Mr. Hashmi has held many diplomatic assignments abroad, including in Copenhagen (1999-2002); United Nations Headquarters in New York (2004-2007); Beijing (2008-2010); and United Nations Headquarters in New York (2011-2016).

He joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1994. He has served at Headquarters in Pakistan as Section Officer (1996-1999); Deputy Director (2002-2004); Director (2010-2011); and Director General (2016-2019).

Mr. Hashmi was born in 1967. He holds a master’s degree in comparative religions. He is married.
