NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA
Ji-ah Paik, the new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Paik had been serving as President of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security, Korea National Diplomatic Academy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs since February 2017. She was Deputy Permanent Representative at the Korean Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York from April 2013 to October 2015; she also served there as a Second Secretary from August 1992 to November 1998. She served as Minister-Counsellor at the Korean Embassy in Malaysia from June 2006 to June 2009. She also served as Counsellor at the Korean Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva from December 2003 to May 2006.
Ms. Paik joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985 and served as Consul at the Korean Consulate General in New York from January 1991 to July 1992. She has held numerous posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul, including as Deputy Minister for Planning and Coordination at the Ministry from March 2016 to January 2017; Director General for international organizations at the Ministry from August 2010 to November 2012 and Deputy Director General from July 2009 to September 2009; and Director of the Human Rights and Social Affairs Division at the Ministry from February 2002 to November 2003.
Ms. Paik has a B.A. in international relations from Seoul National University, Seoul, Republic of Korea (1985) and an M.A. in international economics and American foreign policy from the School of Advanced International Studies, John Hopkins University, Washington D.C., United States (1989). She was born on 1 January 1963 and is married with a son.
