NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BELGIUM PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Geert Muylle, the new Permanent Representative of Belgium to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Muylle served as Director General a.i. and Member of the Board of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium and Deputy to the Secretary General of the Ministry, in charge of management issues, since 2014. He also served as Director General and Member of the Board at the Ministry for bilateral relations from 2010 to 2012.

Mr. Muylle served as Permanent Representative of Belgium to the Political and Security Committee of the European Union and to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization from 2009 to 2010. From 2004 to 2009, he worked as a diplomatic advisor to Yves Leterme in his different capacities as Prime Minister, Vice Prime Minister and as Minister President of the Flemish Government. From 1990 to 2004, Mr. Muylle served in various positions in Warsaw, the former Yugoslavia, the United Nations Office at Geneva, Brussels, France, and Brussels covering the European Union.

Mr. Muylle was born on 1 May, 1962 in Deinze, Belgium. He has a law degree from the Catholic University of Louvain (1980 to 1985); a post graduate degree in international relations and compared politics from the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve; and a post graduate degree in management from the Catholic University of Louvain (2001-2002). He is married with three children.
