NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF POLAND PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Piotr Stachańczyk, the new Permanent Representative of Poland to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Stachańczyk had been serving as Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior since November 2011. He was Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Interior and Administration from November 2007 to November 2011, including working as a Special Envoy for the Foundation of the Office for Repatriation and Foreigners in 2011. He was the Head of the Office for Repatriation and Foreigners from 2001 to August 2007. He is the co-author of all acts related to migration, repatriation and citizenship issues that have been adopted in Poland since 1997.

Mr. Stachańczyk started his career at the Ministry of Interior in 1990, working as the Director of the Office of the Minister, then as the Deputy Director of the Department of Social Administration. From 1992 to 1993, he was an Undersecretary of State at the Office of the Council of Ministers. He was the Deputy Director and then Director of the Consular and Emigration Affairs Department from 1994 to 1998.

Mr. Stachańczyk has a Master in Law from Jagiellonian University (1986) and completed a court apprenticeship in 1988. He worked as an Assistant in the Law Faculty of the University from 1985 to 1994. He attended crisis management courses in Washington at the United States Department of State (1990) and in Warsaw (1991). He was born in Krakow on 10 September 1962.
