NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF GABON PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Marianne Odette Bibalou Bounda, the new Permanent Representative of Gabon to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Bibalou Bounda, who will also concurrently be Gabon’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Vienna, had been serving as Deputy Permanent Representative of Gabon to the United Nations in New York since 2009, including as Chargé d’Affaires a.i. from March 2014 to July 2015. She was Deputy Permanent Representative of Gabon to the World Tourism Organization in Madrid from 2005 to 2009, during which time she also dealt with administrative and consular affairs at Gabon’s Embassy to Spain. From 2004 to 2005, she served as Deputy Chief of Cabinet to the President of the fifty-ninth session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

A career diplomat, who joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Francophonie in Libreville in 1986, Ms. Bibalou Bounda served as First Counsellor at the Embassy of Gabon to Spain from 2000 to 2004; and as First Counsellor at the Embassy of Gabon to Egypt from 1994 to 2000, including as Chargé d’Affaires a.i. in 1995. She also held various posts at the Ministry in Libreville. She has represented Gabon in numerous regional, international and United Nations meetings and conferences.

Ms. Bibalou Bounda has a diploma in international relations from the Diplomatic School of Madrid (1989); a diploma from the National Administration School in Gabon (1986); and a Master of Arts in English and Spanish from the Omar Bongo University (1985), among others. She has three children.
