NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF UKRAINE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO ACTING DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA
Presentation of Credentials
Yurii Klymenko, the new Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Klymenko had been serving as Deputy and First Deputy Director-General of the Principal Department for International Relations, Administration of the President of Ukraine. He was Consul General of Ukraine in Barcelona, Spain from 2006 to 2010, and in Thessalonica, Greece from 2005 to 2006.
A career diplomat, Mr. Klymenko served as Director of the Western Hemisphere Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine from 2004 to 2005. He was First Secretary and Political Counsellor at the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States from 2000 to 2003. He also served at the Arms Control and Disarmament Department, and as Assistant of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, from 1992 to 1998.
Mr. Klymenko was born on 27 July 1969 in Kyiv region, Ukraine. He has degrees from the Kyiv State University, Department of Romanic and Germanic Philology (1992), the Department of Law (1999), and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (1996-1997). He is married with two children.
