NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MEXICO PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Jorge Lomonaco Tonda, the new Permanent Representative of Mexico to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Lomonaco Tonda had been serving as Ambassador of Mexico to Sweden and non-resident Ambassador to Latvia and Lithuania since 2012. From 2007 to 2012, he was Ambassador of Mexico to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
From 2003 to 2007, Mr. Lomonaco Tonda was Consul General of Mexico in Miami, United States. Between 2000 to 2003, he served as Chief of Cabinet to Mexico’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and subsequently as Deputy Minister for Administrative Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A career diplomat, Mr. Lomonaco Tonda joined the Mexican Foreign Service in 1991. Between 1991 and 1995, he was head of the Mediterranean Countries desk and advisor and chief of staff to the Deputy Foreign Minister. He was posted in London from 1995 to 1998 where he headed the Multilateral Affairs Section at the Mexican Embassy. From 1998 to 2000, he was posted in Washington D.C. where he served as Head of the Mexican Embassy’s Consular Liaison Office.

Mr. Lomonaco Tonda was born in Mexico City in 1963. He has been decorated by the Kings of Spain and Sweden and by the Queen of the Netherlands.
