NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BRAZIL PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Regina Maria Cordeiro Dunlop, the new Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Michael Møller, the Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Dunlop had been serving as Deputy Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations in New York since 2009. Before that she coordinated social projects aimed at generating income from the revitalization of traditional knowledge as Assistant to the Presidency’s Social Programme. She also served as Assistant to the Vice Minister of External Relations and Director General of the Department of Asia and the Pacific of the Ministry of External Relations.

A career diplomat, Ms. Dunlop has assumed progressive positions in the Brazilian Foreign Service in both the economic and political fields. Her first destination abroad was the Brazilian delegation for multilateral economic affairs in London. She then served at the Brazilian Embassy in London, in the cabinet of the Minister of External Relations and as Deputy Secretary for Relations with the Congress. From 1994 to 1997 she was posted in the Brazilian Embassy in Beijing, where she led negotiations for the joint bilateral programme on earth resource satellites.

Ms. Dunlop graduated with a degree in English from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, took a post-graduate diploma in Applied Linguistics at Leeds University in the United Kingdom, and received her Master of Arts in Linguistics from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. She also attended a two year course at the Rio Branco Institute, the Brazilian Diplomatic Academy.
