NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF SUDAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Rahma Salih Elobied, the new Permanent Representative of Sudan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Elobied had been serving as Director of the Department of Human Rights of Woman and Child Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sudan since 2010. From 2006 to 2010, she worked at the Mission of Sudan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, including as Deputy Head of Mission from 2008 to 2010. She served at the Embassy of Sudan in Paris, France from 2000 to 2004, including as Deputy Head of Mission from 2003 to 2004.

Ms. Elobied joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sudan in 1996, and has held various posts both in Khartoum and abroad. From 1984 to 1992, she worked at the Presidency of Sudan, first as a liaison officer and translator at the Protocol Department, then as Assistant Director of the Department in 1990, and finally as Deputy Director of the Department in 1992.

Ms. Elobied has a B.A. in French language from the Faculty of Arts, University of Khartoum, a High Diploma in international relations from the University of Khartoum, and a M.A. in translation from the University of Khartoum. She has also attended a number of seminars and training courses during her career. She was born in December 1959 in Oumdurman, Sudan, and is married with one child.
