NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MALI PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA
Aya Thiam Diallo, the new Permanent Representative of Mali to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to her appointment to Geneva and to joining the diplomatic service of Mali, Ms. Thiam Diallo served as the Director General of Mali Airports, a role she held from December 2007 to March 2012. Between the years of 1998 and 2007 Ms. Thiam Diallo worked at the office of the United States Agency for International Development (US AID) in Malian capital Bamako, where she was responsible for matters relating to Mali’s policies on improvement of its business environment and export promotion. From 1995 to 1998 she was the Fiscal and Legal Councillor within the Financial Cabinet Council in Bamako.
In 1995 Ms. Thiam Diallo worked at the French Development Agency in Bamako, in the field of private sector funding. From 1990 to 1995 she was the Administrative and Finance Director at the General Directorate for Pharmacies and Veterinaries in Mali. Prior to that position, in 1990 Ms. Thiam Diallo worked for the Central State Bank for West Africa, at its Mali office. Between 1988 and 1989 she worked at the North Bank Credit Agency of Lower Normandy to Caen, and from 1985 to 1988 she was an office at the National Centre for Public Service for the Normandy and Caen region of France.
Ms. Thiam Diallo was born on 5 August 1959 in Bamako. She studied at the Degree and Masters levels economic sciences first at the Academy of Strasbourg, then at the University of Caen, both in France. Ms. Thiam Diallo has a doctorate in the Economics of Development Work, also from the University of Caen, and a post-doctorate degree in cash management from the same institution. She speaks French and English and has written and aural Spanish.
Ms. Thiam Diallo is married and has three children.
