NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF GUATEMALA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Carla Maria Rodriguez Mancia, the new Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Rodriguez Mancia had been serving as Ambassador of Guatemala to Austria since 2008 and as Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the United Nations Office at Vienna and other international organizations there. Concurrently, she was non-resident Ambassador of Guatemala to the Czech Republic and Hungary (2009 to 2012) and to Slovakia, Slovenia and Romania (2010 to 2012). She served as Ambassador of Guatemala to the Netherlands from 2006 to 2008, and concurrently was the Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, as well as Alternate Governor of Guatemala to the Common Fund for Commodities.

A career diplomat, Ms. Rodriguez Mancia has held a number of posts, including as Deputy Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the United Nations Office at Geneva (1998 to 2003) and Deputy Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization (1997 to 2003). She started her career as a Programme Assistant on the Guatemala desk at the UNICEF Area Office for Central America (1985 to 1989) and joined Guatemala’s diplomatic service in 1990.

Ms. Rodriguez Mancia has a degree from Rafael Landivar University in Guatemala City (1983 to 1987) where she studied political and social sciences. She taught sociology in 1988 and foreign policy in 2005 at the same university. She was born in Guatemala City on 4 March 1965.
