NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BHUTAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Presentation of Credentials
Daw Penjo, the new Permanent Representative of Bhutan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Penjo had been serving as Foreign Secretary of Bhutan since 2009. He was Bhutan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York from 2003 to 2008, and concurrently served as Bhutan’s non-resident Ambassador to Canada.
As a career diplomat, Mr. Penjo has held a number of posts, including as Deputy Chief of Mission of Bhutan in New Delhi, India (1997 to 2000); Deputy Chief of Mission of Bhutan in Dhaka, Bangladesh (1994 to 1996); and Second Secretary of the Mission of Bhutan to the United Nations Office at Geneva (1986 to 1990). He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bhutan in Thimphu in 1980.
Mr. Penjo has a Master in International Relations from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, Boston, United States (1993); and a Bachelor of Arts from St. Stephens College, Delhi University, New Delhi, India (1979). He was born on 7 March 1958 and is married with three children.
