NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MALAYSIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA
Presentation of Credentials
Mazlan Muhammad, the new Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Muhammad had been serving as High Commissioner of Malaysia to New Zealand since August 2011. He was Ambassador of Malaysia to Myanmar from the end of 2007 to 2011. He was also Ambassador of Malaysia to Iran from the end of 2001 to 2004. From 1991 to 1995, Mr. Muhammad served as Counsellor at the Malaysian Permanent Mission to the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
A career diplomat, Mr. Muhammad’s foreign postings include being Assistant High Commissioner at the Office of the Assistant High Commissioner in Madras, India from 1998 to 2001. He was also Second Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia to China from 1984 to 1988. Mr. Muhammad has also held different posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia. He joined Malaysia’s Diplomatic Service in 1981.
Mr. Muhammad was born on 30 May, 1956 in Pahang, Malaysia. He has a B.A. from the University of Malaysia. He is married with four children.
