NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ALGERIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Boudjemaa Delmi, the new Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Delmi had been serving as the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Algeria since 2009. Mr. Delmi served as Algeria’s Ambassador to Serbia from 2005 to 2008; as Algeria’s Ambassador to Japan from 1997 to 2001; and as Algeria’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, concurrently serving as non-resident Ambassador to Eritrea and Djibouti, from 1994 to 1997. From 1984 to 1988, Mr. Delmi served as Counselor at the Permanent Mission of Algeria to the United Nations Office at Geneva.

A career diplomat, Mr. Delmi joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Algeria in 1978 and has held various posts at the Ministry, including as Director-General for Political Affairs and International Security from 2008 to 2009; Director-General for Africa from 2001 to 2005; and Director for Multilateral Relations from 1992 to 1994, among others. He has represented Algeria at regional and international meetings and conferences, including of the Organization of African Union, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and the United Nations.

Mr. Delmi was born on 27 February 1952. He has a degree from the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (diplomatic section).
