NEW PERMANENT OBSERVER OF WEST AFRICAN ECONOMIC AND MONETARY UNION PRESENTS LETTER OF NOMINATION TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Jean-Luc Senou, the new Permanent Observer of the West African Economic and Monetary Union to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his letter of nomination to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his arrival in Geneva, Mr. Senou had been serving as Resident Representative of the West African Economic and Monetary Union to the European Union in Brussels since 2002. Concurrently, he was Resident Representative of the Union to the Group of African, Caribbean and Pacific States, and also dealt with bilateral cooperation between the Union and Belgium. From 1997 to 2002, he was the Director for Commerce and Concurrence at the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union in Ouagadougou. He was in charge of economic analysis and studies at the Commission from 1996 to 1997.

Mr. Senou worked at the Regional Centre for Commercial Information and Documentation of the West African Economic and Monetary Union from 1987 to 1996 in a number of capacities, concluding with his serving as Coordinator of the Centre. He worked from 1984 to 1987 at the National Centre for Documentation and Data Processing in Cotonou, Benin. From 1982 to 1984, he worked at the National Institute for Statistics and Economic Analysis in Cotonou, and from 1981 to 1982 he worked at the Service for Studies and Economic and Financial Synthesis in Cotonou.

Mr. Senou has a number of degrees, including a degree in maths and physics from the National University of Benin (1974); a diploma in statistics and data processing from the National Higher School for Statistics and Applied Economics in Abidjan (1977); and a diploma in statistics from the National School of Statistics and Economic Administration in Paris (1981). Mr. Senou was born on 26 April 1954 in Benin. He is married with four children.
