NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF REPUBLIC OF KOREA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Park Sang-ki, the new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Park had been studying at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security since April 2008. From 2006 to 2008, he served as Ambassador for International Counter-Terrorism Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. From 2007 to 2008, he served concurrently as Chairman of the Counter-Terrorism Task Force of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

A career diplomat, Mr. Park joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1975. His foreign assignments include Consul-General at the Korean Consulate General in Shanghai, China from 2003 to 2005; Minister in the Korean delegation to the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris, France from 1998 to 2002; Counsellor at the Korean Permanent Mission to the European Communities in Brussels, Belgium from 1992 to 1996; Consul at the Korean Consulate General in New York, United States from 1986 to 1989; Second Secretary at the Korean Embassy in Senegal from 1981 to 1983; and Third Secretary at the Korean Embassy in the United States from 1979 to 1981. He has also held a number of posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Park has a degree from the Department of International Relations at Seoul National University in Seoul (1975); a degree from the Graduate School of New York City University (1989); and he was a Fellow at the Centre for International Affairs at Harvard University, Boston, United States (1996). Born on 6 October, 1952, Mr. Park is married with two sons.
