NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BARBADOS PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Marion Vernese Williams, the new Permanent Representative of Barbados to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Williams had been working at the Central Bank of Barbados for most of her career, including as Deputy Governor from 1992 to 1999, and as Governor from 1999 to 2010. She joined the Central Bank of Barbados in 1973 and has held a variety of posts there. She also worked at the East Caribbean Currency Authority from 1968 to 1973.

An economist by training, Ms. Williams has published a number of books and papers relating to the economy of Barbados. She has also represented Barbados in many regional and international conferences. Ms. Williams has a number of university degrees and diplomas, including a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Surrey (1995). She has received a number of awards during her career, including the Gold Crown of Merit by the Government of Barbados, the Wendell McClean Award by the Barbados Economic Society and the Award by the Caribbean Bankers Association for service to Caribbean Banking.
