NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ANDORRA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Lluís Viu Torres, the new Permanent Representative of Andorra to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Mr. Viu Torres, a sportsman and politician, has a long history of involvement in the political and sports world in Andorra, bringing those two interests together as the Co-founder of the Andorran Olympic Committee, its first Vice President and Treasurer. Mr. Viu Torres was the Mayor of the parish of Andorra la Vella from 1991 to 1998. He was also a co-founder of numerous Andorran associations related to sport and humanitarian action, including the Andorran Red Cross, UNICEF Andorra and the Andorran Rotary Club. He was the President of the Andorra Ski Club from 1981 to 1991. Since 1999, Mr. Viu Torres has been working in the private sector, as the head of his family business in Andorra, and has also worked with Andorran non-governmental organizations.

Mr. Viu Torres’s early career revolved around skiing. He was a director of the Andorran Ski Station Soldeu, from 1970 to 1973; a trainer and selection committee member for the Spanish national ski team, from 1966 to 1970; and a member of the Spanish national ski team, from 1961 to 1966.

Born on 27 March 1943, Mr. Viu Torres is married, with two children.
