NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BELARUS PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Presentation of Credentials
Mikhail Khvostov, the new Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Khvostov had been serving as the Ambassador of Belarus to the United States since 2003. He was the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus from 2000 to 2003. He was an Assistant to the President of Belarus for foreign policy issues from 2000 to 2003. He was also Ambassador of Belarus to Canada from 1997 to 2000, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1994 to 1997.
Before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Khvostov occupied various positions at the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is currently a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague.
Mr. Khvostov was born in Vitebsk Region of Belarus on 27 June 1949. He has a degree in roman linguistics from Minsk State Institute of Foreign languages and another in international law from the Belarusian State University.
