NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MALI PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Sidiki Lamine Sow, the new Permanent Representative of Mali to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Sow had been serving, since 2003, as the Inspector of Diplomatic and Consular Services at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mali. From 2000 to 2003, he was Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry, and from 1998 to 2000, he was the Head of the Asia-Pacific Unit of the Department of Political Affairs of the Ministry.

Mr. Sow served as the First Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Mali to United Nations Headquarters in New York from 1995 to 1997. He also served as First Counsellor at the Embassy of Mali in Accra, Ghana, from 1994 to 1995. Since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sow has held a number of other posts.

Mr. Sow holds a number of degrees and diplomas from the Lycée de Badalabougou in Bamako, Mali; the University of Pekin, China; the Institute for Political Studies in Paris, France; the Sorbonne in Paris; and the Institute of International Public Administration in Paris.

Born on 23 September 1953, in Kayes, Mali, Mr. Sow is married with two children.
