NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BRAZIL PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Clodoaldo Hugueney Filho, the new Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Hugueney Filho had been serving as Undersecretary-General for Economic and Technological Affairs at the Ministry of External Relations since 2003. He was the Undersecretary-General for Integration, Economic and External Trade Affairs at the Ministry in 2002. From 1999 to 2002, he served in Brussels as Ambassador at the Brazilian Mission to the European Communities, and from 1993 to 1999, he was the Ambassador of Brazil in Caracas, Venezuela.
A career diplomat, Mr. Hugueney Filho has held a number of positions at the Ministry of External Relations at the Commercial Policy Division and the Economic Department as well as serving as the Undersecretary-General of the Ministry for Economic Affairs and for Political and Economic Planning in 1992. Other official positions include being the Special Representative of the President for MERCOSUR in 2002; Director of the International Affairs Department in the National Planning Secretariat of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Finances and Planning from 1990 to 1991; and International Affairs Secretary in the Ministry of Planning and Coordination from 1988 to 1990.
Mr. Hugueney Filho's overseas posts include being in London from 1979 to 1983; in Washington from 1972 to 1975; and in Santiago from 1969 to 1972. He has represented Brazil in many international meetings, and had received honorary distinctions from Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia and Mexico.
Mr. Hugueney Filho was born in Rio de Janeiro on 24 February, 1943. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Law from the Catholic Pontifical University of Rio de Janeiro, and he conducted graduate studies in economic sciences at the University of Chile.
