Commemoration of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers
Monday, 30 May 2022, from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
United Nations Memorial (Ariana Park)
Palais des Nations, Geneva
On the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, officially celebrated on 29 May of each year, we promote the tangible impact of peacekeeping and pay tribute to the dedication, professionalism, and courage of personnel who serve in missions around the world. It is also a moment to reflect on the sacrifice made by peacekeepers who have lost their lives serving the cause of peace under the UN flag over the past 74 years.
As the world is mired by protracted conflicts and crises, and people look to the United Nations for solutions, the challenges and threats faced by our peacekeepers are even greater than ever. There is a critical need for a collective approach to protection, peace and security. Peacekeeping is a collective enterprise and partnerships are essential for securing sustainable peace.
This year’s theme is “People. Peace. Progress. The Power of Partnerships”. It aims to harness the power of people through partnership to secure peace, progress and, ultimately, prosperity for all people.
This year, the United Nations Office at Geneva will mark the International Day of UN Peacekeepers on Monday 30 May. Join us for a ceremony at the United Nations Memorial in the Ariana Park of the Palais des Nations.
