Opening of the 2017 UNWG Bazaar

Mrs. Sukayri,
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen:

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the annual festive Bazaar organized by the United Nations Women’s Guild.

Many members of the Guild worked hard to make this Bazaar a success. My sincere appreciation goes to all of you who have worked so hard to make it happen. Your Bazaar is a highlight in the life of the Palais des Nations every year and we all look forward to it.

Nelson Mandela once said that "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". Your work enables young people around the world to receive education that equips them with tools they need to change the world and make it a better place.

The funds collected at the Bazaar last year were used by the Women’s Guild to prevent girls from dropping out of school in Africa, to train young women and teenagers in computer skills in Latin America, and to enable children with disabilities to access school and educational material in Asia.

These are just a few examples among many more accomplishments made possible by the Women’s Guild.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I warmly invite you to visit all stands and restaurant stalls. I wholeheartedly encourage you to be generous because your contribution today will help many children towards a healthier and a better childhood. Ultimately, your support is an investment in tomorrow’s adults. A sustainable world for the next generations lies in the education of today’s youth, and I warmly thank all the members of the Women’s Guild for their exceptional dedication and continued commitment to this admirable cause.

Thank you.

This speech is part of a curated selection from various official events and is posted as prepared.
