التقى المبعوث الخاص للأمم المتحدة لسوريا، ستيفان دي مستورا اليوم بوزير الخارجية الأمريكي السيد جون كيري بجنيف، لمحادثات في إطار الجهود الجارية لإعادة تأكيد وإعادة تنفيذ وقف الأعمال العدائية في جميع أنحاء سوريا، وذلك بعد ازدياد وتيرة القتال في العديد من المناطق بسوريا .
وأعرب المبعوث الخاص عن قلقه العميق إزاء تدهور الأوضاع واستمرار العنف خاصا في حلب والتي تؤثر على المدنيين الأبرياء. وحذر من "أن الوضع الحالي يعرض وقف الأعمال العدائية لخطر كبير". كما أكد دعوته إلى كل من الولايات المتحدة والاتحاد الروسي لتجديد جهودهما لحماية واستعادة وقف الأعمال العدائية على الصعيد الوطني. وأضاف السيد دي مستورا: "لا يمكن أن يكون يتحقق أي تقدم في العملية السياسية ما لم نرى نتائج عاجلة وملموسة على أرض الواقع للشعب السوري".
وفي اجتماع منفصل، التقى السيد دي مستورا مع وزير خارجية المملكة العربية السعودية، السيد عادل بن أحمد الجبير وأكد على أهمية الفريق الدولي لدعم سوريا للمساعدة في إعادة تنفيذ وقف الأعمال العدائية.
ومن المقرر أن يسافر المبعوث الخاص إلى موسكو مساء اليوم حيث يلتقي مع وزير الشؤون الخارجية، السيد سيرغي لافروف، بشأن القضايا ذاتها.
The United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, today met U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Geneva to discuss ongoing efforts to reaffirm and re-implement the cessation of hostilities throughout Syria, following increased fighting in many parts of the country.
The Special Envoy expressed deep concern about the deteriorating situation and the continued violence, in particular Aleppo, affecting innocent civilians. He warned “it is putting the cessation of hostilities at a high risk.” He re-emphasized his appeal to the U.S. and Russian Federation to renew their efforts to protect and restore the cessation of hostilities nationwide. “There can be no progress in the political process unless we urgently see tangible benefits on the ground for the Syrian people,” said the Special Envoy.
Mr. de Mistura also met with the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Adel al-Jubeir, and underlined the importance of ISSG members to assist with the re-implementation of the cessation of hostilities.
Mr. de Mistura is scheduled to travel to Moscow tonight where he will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, on the same issues.
