Adopts Concluding Observations and Recommendations on Reports of Kyrgyzstan, Peru and Uganda

The Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families today concluded its twenty-second session after adopting its concluding observations and recommendations on the reports of Kyrgyzstan, Peru and Uganda.

The concluding observations and recommendations on the reports of Kyrgyzstan, Peru and Uganda will be available on the Committee’s webpage next week.

During the session, the Committee issued two press releases and a statement regarding the tragedies in the Mediterranean involving the loss of life of hundreds of migrants. The Committee also addressed letters to the Secretary-General, the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the European Union in this regard.

With regard to the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Convention, the Committee wrote to the High Commissioner requesting a meeting at the next session and inviting him to participate in the anniversary event on 4 September 2015.

Concerning the draft General Comment on children in the context of migration, the Committee met with representatives of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the International Labour Organization, the United Nations Refugee Agency, the United Nations Children’s Fund and other partners to discuss its scope, timeline and other matters. Meetings were also held with representatives of civil society and national institutions and agencies.

The Committee also adopted its list of issues prior to reporting under the simplified reporting procedure for Honduras, Nicaragua, Niger and Senegal.

The twenty-third session of the Committee will be held from 31 August to 9 September 2015 at the Palais Wilson in Geneva, when the Committee will consider the reports of Cape Verde, Guinea, Seychelles and Timor-Leste.
