Report launch: ‘Air Pollution in Asia and the Pacific: Science-Based Solutions’
The Asia Pacific region has the highest number of premature deaths from air pollution in the world. The authors of this report used the best air quality data available and state of the art modelling techniques to identify the most effective 25 measures to reduce air pollution in the region. If the measures were implemented, one billion people in Asia could enjoy air quality that conforms to World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines by 2030, and premature mortality would be reduced by a third. The report is launched in the margins of the WHO’s first global conference on Air Pollution and Health. Ms. Helena Molin Valdés, Head of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition Secretariat, hosted by UN Environment Prof. Yun-Chul Hong, Director of the Institute of Environmental Medicine, Seoul National University, and report Co-Chair Dr. Drew Shindell, Professor of Climate Sciences at Duke University and Chair of the CCAC Scientific Advisory Panel Dr. Johan Kuylenstierna, Policy Director, Stockholm Environment Institute
