Geneva International Discussions The 26th round of the Geneva International Discussions will take place on 17 and 18 December 2013.
After the meeting on 18 December, a series of press conferences will take place in Room III at the Palais des Nations, starting with :

UN and humanitarian partners will launch the humanitarian strategies and requirements for 2014 (previously known as the CAP – Consolidated Appeals Process) on Monday 16 December in Geneva followed by a press briefing.[
] The launch includes strategic response plans and requirements covering 17 affected countries, including Syria and the region.
The launch is the culmination of a worldwide process in which hundreds of organizations delivering humanitarian aid in crisis-affected regions come together to assess needs and formulate concerted plans and a unified funding request to Member States and donor organizations.

For the launch of its new online database, GLOBOCAN 2012, the specialized cancer research agency of the World Health Organization, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) will hold a press briefing to present the latest cancer trends. Experts will provide an analysis of global trends in cancer incidence, mortality, and prevalence and introduce the new online cancer database, GLOBOCAN 2012.
GLOBOCAN 2012 reveals striking patterns of cancer in women and highlights that priority should be given to cancer prevention and control measures for breast and cervix cancers globally. The online resource includes the most recent estimates for 28 types of cancers in 184 countries and offers a comprehensive overview of the global cancer burden. It has facilities to produce maps and a series of factsheets to describe the overall cancer burden in specific areas or countries.

The World Health Organization (WHO) will launch the World Malaria Report 2013 and unveil the latest available data and analysis on one of the world’s leading infectious killers. The report includes an assessment of trends in the scale-up of mosquito control tools, diagnostic testing and treatment in 97 affected countries. It also reviews the funding situation, the double threat of drug and insecticide resistance, and progress towards global targets set for 2015.
Please note the main launch will be in Washington DC on 11 December.
The embargo will be lifted on 11 December 2013 at 15h30 CET/ 9h30 EST.
