Launch of the WHO Smoke-Free Movies Report.
Films showing tobacco consumption play a major role in influencing many people, especially the young, to start smoking cigarettes and other similar deadly products. The new WHO Smoke-Free Movies Report describes the film industry’s influence on tobacco consumption and calls for actions to curb the powerful impact that movies can have on promoting this deadly habit among children and adolescents.

Childhood obesity is reach alarming proportions in many countries and poses an urgent and serious challenge. The Commission which was set up in 2014 will present its report and a package of recommendations to address childhood obesity.

Estimates indicate that the 2015-2016 El Niño phenomenon will impact some 60 million people worldwide. We will present the new WHO El Niño and Health Global Overview, assessing a wide range of health impacts of El Niño. While the adverse climate effects of El Niño are expected to peak in January 2016 and wind down by April, the health consequences will last throughout 2016 and beyond.
