Release of the Global Innovation Index 2017.
Co-published by WIPO,Cornell University and INSEAD, the report provides an annual ranking of the innovation capabilities and performance of economies around the world. In its tenth edition, the GII has established itself as a leading reference on innovation and a valuable bench-marking tool for decision-makers around the world.
Innovation plays a key role as a driver of economic growth and prosperity. The GII seeks to improve the way innovation is measured and understood. It recognizes the need for a broad vision of innovation, applicable to developed and emerging economies alike, and includes indicators that go beyond traditional measures of innovation, such as the level of research and development. New UNICEF report shows that rich countries face challenges in meeting global commitments to children (SDGs). The report, titled Building the Future: Children and the Sustainable Development Goals in Rich Countries, reveals that one in five children live in income poverty and that the gap between the poorest and the median is widening in most industrialized countries.

The Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, Maria Grazia Giammarinaro, will discuss her report on trafficking in supply chains, and the efforts of multi-stakeholder initiatives and industry coalitions to address the issue.
Ms. Giammarinaro identifies and analyses main challenges in adopting voluntary standards and certification schemes to detect trafficking in companies’ supply chains. She also provides recommendations to strengthen voluntary standards and the certification processes to improve detection and remediation of cases of trafficking in persons. The report will be presented to the Human Rights Council on Friday 9 June.
