Press Conference Announcement
Global elimination of dog-mediated human rabies
WHO / OIE Conference on rabies, 10-11 December 2015
Rabies is a 100% preventable disease that still kills tens of thousands of people every year. If not detected and managed quickly, the disease is almost invariably fatal.
Over 95% of human cases are caused by the bite of a rabies-infected dog. The vast majority of victims are children living in poor rural areas with little access to health services.
