New Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva
António da Conceição, the new Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. da Conceição served as a member of Parliament and Head of the Democratic Party Bench since 2018. He has served in multiple leadership positions within the Timor-Leste Government, including Minister of Commerce, Industry and Environment (2017 and 2012-2015), and Coordinating Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of Education (2015-2017). He has also held advisory positions within the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Justice and the National Planning Commission.
Mr. da Conceição is a founding member of the Democratic Party of Timor-Leste and currently serves as its Secretary-General. He began his career working for a non-governmental organization and the offices of several international aid organizations based in Timor-Leste.
He earned a master’s degree in international relations and strategic studies from Lancaster University, United Kingdom (2004), and completed studies in philosophy and theology at Sekolah Tinggi Filsafat dan Theology Widya Sasana Malang, Indonesia (1987-1991).
Born in Bazartete, Timor-Leste, on 8 October 1964, Mr. da Conceição is married.
