New Permanent Representative of Türkiye Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Güven Begeç the new Permanent Representative of Türkiye to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Begeç worked as the Deputy Director General for International Political Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye since 2019. He was the Deputy Permanent Representative of Türkiye to the United Nations in New York from 2016 to 2019. He also served as the Consul General of Türkiye in Tabriz, Iran from 2012 to 2015.

A career diplomat, Mr. Begeç had held numerous positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1996. These include being Head of Department at the Directorate General for Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (2010-2012); Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of Türkiye to the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (2006 to 2010); Chief of Section at the Directorate General for Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (2005-2006); Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Türkiye to the European Union and the Western European Union (2002-2005); and Second Secretary at the Turkish Embassy in New Delhi, India (1999-2002).

Mr. Begeç has a bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Political Science, Ankara University (1996). He was born on 12 February 1974 and is married.
