Panayotis Stournaras, the new Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Stournaras had been serving at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Greece as the Director for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Council of Europe since 2013. Also in 2013, he served at the Ministry as the Director for the United Nations and international organizations, and was a member of the Greek delegation to the sixty-eighth session of the United Nations’ General Assembly in New York. From 2009 to 2013, he served as Ambassador of Greece to Morocco, also accredited to Mauritania, Senegal, the Gambia and Guinea-Bissau.

Mr. Stournaras was a Senior Counsellor for political affairs at the Embassy of Greece in the United States from 2007 to 2009, and served at the Permanent Representation of Greece to the European Union in Brussels, Belgium, from 2000 to 2004. He was a Training Director at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs from 2004 to 2007.

A career diplomat, Mr. Stournaras joined the Diplomatic Service in 1983 and held various other posts. He was born on 22 March 1957 in Volos, Greece and has a law degree from Athens University Law School.
