NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF PERU PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Silvia Elena Alfaro Espinosa, the new Permanent Representative of Peru to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Alfaro Espinosa had been serving as Director-General of Economic Promotion at the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lima since August 2016. She was a Specialized Advisor at the Diplomatic Academy of Peru in Lima from December 2015 to July 2016. She also served as Director-General of Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from May to November 2015.

Ms. Alfaro Espinosa served as Ambassador of Peru to Bolivia from 2011 to 2014; Charge d’Affaires a.i. of Peru to France in 2010 and 2011; and Head of Chancery in the Embassy of Peru in France, and Deputy Permanent Representative of Peru to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and other international organizations in Paris in 2009 and 2010. She was Director-General of the South American Community and of the Andean Community of the Under-secretariat of Economic Affairs from 2007 to 2009, and concurrently Delegate of Peru to the Union of South American Nations, the Andean Community, and the Southern Common Market.

Since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1983, Ms. Alfaro Espinosa has held a number of positions in Lima, and has also been posted as a member of the Embassy of Peru in Uruguay in 1986 and 1987; member of the Representation of Peru to the Latin American Integration Association in Uruguay from 1987 to 1990; member of the Embassy of Peru in Bolivia from 1990 to 1992; and as Deputy Consul General of Peru in Barcelona, Spain from 1998 to 2003.

Ms. Alfaro Espinosa has a degree in law from the Pontifica Universidad Catolica del Peru (2017); a Master of Science, with a major in foreign affairs from the London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London (1984-1985); a degree in foreign affairs from the Diplomatic Academy of Peru in Lima (1979 to 1982); and a Bachelor degree in law from the Pontifica Universidad Catolica del Peru (1979-1995); among others.
