NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF RUSSIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Gennady Gatilov, the new Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Gatilov had been serving as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia since 2011. He was the Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs from 2008 to 2011. From 2004 to 2008, Mr. Gatilov served as a Senior Adviser at the United Nations Secretary-General’s Executive Office. From 1999 to 2004, he served as First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, and from 1992 to 1997, he was the Head of the Political Section at Russia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

Mr. Gatilov joined the Foreign Ministry of the USSR in 1972. He has served at the Embassy of the USSR in Egypt as a Third Secretary (1972 to 1977), and in Jordan as a Second Secretary (1980 to 1984). He has served at the Directorate of International Organizations as a Third Secretary from 1977 to 1980; as First Secretary and Division Head from 1984 to 1992; and as Deputy Director of the Department of International Organizations from 1997 to 1999.

Mr. Gatilov was born in 1950. He has been awarded the Order of Honour and the Order of Friendship. He is married with a daughter.
