NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF EGYPT PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Alaa Youssef, the new Permanent Representative of Egypt to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Youssef had been serving as Spokesperson of the Egyptian Presidency since September 2014. He was a Political Advisor to the Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, based in Barcelona, from June 2010 to August 2014. He served as a Counsellor at the Embassy of Egypt in Paris from August 2007 to June 2010, and a Counsellor at the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt from September 2005 to July 2007.

A career diplomat who joined the Egyptian Foreign Service in November 1991, Mr. Youssef served as Third Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations Office at Geneva from August 1994 to December 1998. He served as First Secretary at the Embassy of Egypt in Beirut from September 2001 to August 2005.

Mr. Youssef was born in Cairo on 8 December 1967. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Sciences from Cairo University (1985 to 1989). He is married with a son and daughter.
