NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF INDIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Rajiv Kumar Chander, the new Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Chander had been serving as Consul General of India in Vancouver, Canada since August 2015. He was India’s Ambassador to Ukraine from July 2011 to July 2015. Before that, he worked at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, in charge of political work relating to Gulf countries as well as Haj related matters.

Mr. Chander served as India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 2006 to 2009. He was India’s Consul General in Saint Petersburg, Russia, from 2000 to 2002, after which he proceeded on deputation to the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation based in Kathmandu, Nepal for four years. Mr. Chander’s first assignment abroad was at the Embassy of India in Moscow, Russia after which he returned to New Delhi to handle political work relating to Bangladesh. He was posted to Germany in the early 1990s where he worked as First Secretary/Counsellor for political affairs.

Mr. Chander joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1983 after obtaining degrees in history and law. He is married and has a daughter.
