NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA
Choi Kyong-lim, the new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Choi was the Deputy Minister for Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. From 2012 to 2013, he served as the Deputy Minister for Free Trade Agreement at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Between 2009 and 2012, Mr. Choi was the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Brazil. Prior to that, between 2005 and 2009, he held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, including those of the Senior Adviser to the Minister for Trade, Senior Coordinator for Free Trade Agreement negotiations and the Director General for Free Trade Agreement Policy.
A career diplomat, Mr. Choi entered the diplomatic service in 1982, after which he served at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the United States of America and at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Jamaica. He was also a First Secretary and later a Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Mr. Choi was born on 16 January 1958. He earned a Bachelor degree in International Relations from the Soul National University in 1980, and a Master degree in International relations from the University of Connecticut in 1986. Mr. Choi received the Order of Service Merit in 2008. He is married and has two sons.
