NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ROMANIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Adrian Cosmin Vierita, the new Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Vierita had been serving as Head of the United Nations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania in Bucharest since 2013. He was Ambassador of Romania to the United States from 2008 to 2013. He served as Secretary of State for European and Transatlantic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2008. He was the Ambassador of Romania to Germany from 2002 to 2006.

A career diplomat, Mr. Vierita joined the Foreign Service in 1991. He has held various positions with the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Other postings abroad include a four-year tour with the Permanent Mission of Romania to the international organizations in Vienna.

Mr. Vierita was born on 4 July 1962 in Bucharest. He has a PhD in economic sciences from the Academy of Economic Studies of Bucharest, and an MD from the Faculty of Technology of the Polytechnic University of Bucharest. He co-authored a book called “Romania in the United Nations Organization (1995). He is married with two children.
