NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF TURKMENISTAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO ACTING DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
The new Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Atageldi Haljanov, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Haljanov was the Head of the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. From June 2011 to 2012 he was in the United States, serving as First Secretary at the Consul of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Washington D.C. Before that, he undertook a posting to France where he held the position of Counselor at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Paris.
Between March 2008 and July 2010 Mr. Haljanov held the positions of First Secretary and Counselor of the Embassy of Turkmenistan to the United Kingdom. Mr. Haljanov joined the diplomatic service of Turkmenistan in April 2005, and his first appointment was Second Secretary of the Department of Diplomatic Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prior to his diplomatic career Mr. Haljanov worked in education. A former teacher,
Mr. Haljanov started his professional career in 1999 teaching English language and literature at a high school in Dashoguz, before spending two years working at the Ministry of Education as a Specialist in the Department of Secondary Education and Educational Work.
The new Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan was educated at the Turkmen National Institute of World Languages. He speaks Turkmen, Russian, English and Persian.
Mr. Haljanov was born in Dashuguz, Turkmenistan. He is married and has two children.
