NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MAURITANIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO ACTING DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Mauritania to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Salka Mint Bilal Yamar, today presented her credentials to Michael Møller, the Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Mint Bilal Yamar had been a member of the National Assembly of Mauritania since November 2013, after being President of the Administration Council of the Mauritanian Office for Geological Research since 2009. During the same period, she carried out functions for the “Union for the Republic” political party, and was Vice President of the Mauritanian Network of Female Ministers and Parliamentarians since 2007.

Ms. Mint Bilal Yamar served as Minister of Public Functions and Employment from 2003 to 2005. Before that, she was a professor at the lycée Nouadhibou from 1987 to 2003.

The new Permanent Representative of Mauritania has a Master’s in Natural Sciences from the École normale supérieure, as well as teaching certificates. Born in Saint-Louise in 1960, she is married with four children.
