NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF CHINA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Wu Hailong, the new Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Wu had been serving as Head of the Mission of China to the European Union since 2011. He was China’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2009 to 2011, and from 2006 to 2009, he served as Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served as the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Vienna, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the International Atomic Energy Agency from 2004 to 2006.

A career diplomat, Mr. Wu has held several posts since he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including as Deputy Commissioner at the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region from 2001 to 2004; as Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Israel from 1996 to 1999; as Second Secretary and First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations from 1988 to 1992; and as Attaché and Third Secretary at the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific from 1981 to 1986.

Mr. Wu was born in 1955. He is married with a daughter.
