NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ITALY PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Maurizio Enrico Serra, the new Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Serra had been serving as Permanent Delegate of Italy to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in Paris since 2010. He was Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome from 2008 to 2009, and Director of the Diplomatic Institute in Rome from 2002 to 2008.

Mr. Serra started his diplomatic career in 1978. He served as First Deputy Consul in West Berlin from 1981 to 1986, and as First Secretary in Moscow from 1984 to 1986. He was Counsellor and then First Counsellor in London from 1991 to 1997, and concurrently served as Alternate Director of Italy to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He has held a number of posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome.

Mr. Serra was born in London on 3 June 1955. He has a degree in political science from the University of Rome (1977).
