NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF LIBYA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Ibrahim Aldredi, the new Permanent Representative of Libya to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Aldredi had been serving as Charge d’Affaires at the Libyan Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva since 2009. He served as Charge d’Affaires at the Libyan Embassy in Bern, Switzerland from 2007 to 2009.

A career diplomat, Mr. Aldredi has served as Charge d’Affaires at the Libyan Embassy in Slovakia from 1998 to 2001, and the Libyan Embassy to Azerbaijan from 1996 to 1998. He also served as Ambassador of Libya to Panama from 1982 to 1988. He has held other posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tripoli, including as Director of the Americas Department from 2001 to 2006, and Head of International Organizations from 1994 to 1996. He has represented Libya at many conferences.

Mr. Aldredi has a B.A. from the Faculty of Arts and Education of the Libyan University of Benghazi (1970); an M.A. in political sciences from the University of Missouri, Colombia, United States (1979); and a Ph.D. in political sciences from the same University (1982). He also did a post-graduate course at the School of International Affairs at Colombia University, New York, United States (1971). He was born in Sabrata, Libya on 15 December 1948 and is married with six children.
