NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF SENEGAL PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Fode Seck, the new Permanent Representative of Senegal to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Seck had been serving as Senegal’s Ambassador to Brazil since 2007. He was Charge d’Affairs at the Embassy of Senegal in Saudi Arabia from 2006 to 2007. He served as Technical Counselor to the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2002 to 2006.

A career diplomat, Mr. Seck has held many different posts since he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1976, including as Secretary-General of the Ministry from 1994 to 2000; Director for International Organizations at the Ministry from 1989 to 1994; Head of the United Nations Division at the former Department for Political Affairs at the Ministry from 1986 to 1988; and First Counselor at Senegal’s Embassy in the former Soviet Union from 1981 to 1986. He has represented Senegal in numerous bilateral, multilateral and international negotiations and meetings, including of the United Nations General Assembly.

Mr. Seck has a B.A. in art from the University of Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar (1974). He was born on 1 September 1950 in Ziguinchor, Senegal and is married with six children.
