NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BOTSWANA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Mothusi Bruce Rabasha Palai, the new Permanent Representative of Botswana to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Palai had been serving as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security of Botswana since January 2010. He was Permanent Secretary at the Office of the President from June 2008 to December 2009. From June 2004 to June 2008, he was Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Homes Affairs. He was Deputy Permanent Secretary and a Political Affairs Officer of the President from February 2000 to May 2004, and Commissioner of Labour and Social Security from March 1992 to February 2000. Mr. Palai joined the Ministry of Education in June 1982, and between June 1983 to February 1992, he held several posts at the Department of Labour and Social Security.

During his career, Mr. Palai has represented Botswana at many international fora. He has a Master of Science in Labour Relations from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (1987 to 1989) and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Sociology from the University of Botswana and Swaziland (1978 to 1982). He was born on 2 April 1959 in Mochudi, Botswana.
